Costa Adeje, Tenerife - Guide

General Information  /   Getting Around

Arriving

Tenerife has two airports, but if you’re heading for the resorts in the south-west of the island, you’ll arrive at Sur Reina Sofia Airport (also known as Tenerife Sur or Tenerife South.) About 20 kilometres east of Playa de las Américas, this huge modern airport deals with roughly nine million passengers per year – sometimes up to 25,000 per day. All international charter flights land here, as do nearly all scheduled international flights and others from a host of destinations in mainland Spain. The airport is equipped with restaurants, bars, shops, cash machines and currency exchange facilities. Car rental companies Alamo, Avis, Dollar, Europecar, Hertz and National are all represented, as are a number of local operators.

Tenerife Airport Bus 487 departs from just outside the departures terminal every hour for Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas between 08:10 and 22:00. The journey takes less than half an hour. A single ticket costs 2 € and a return costs 4 €.

Tenerife Airport Taxis also have a rank just outside the departures terminal. Most of the Taxi drivers are honest and provide a good level of service at a fair price. You can be sure that they are official licensed taxis by the green light they display on the roof or the window. They should also display a small plate with the initial SP on the rear bumper. A one-way trip to Playa de Las Américas should cost no more than €20.

General Transport

As with every city in the Netherlands, the most popular way for local residents to get around Eindhoven is by bike. However, the city also has a well-marked, efficient and reliable bus network. A cheap way to get around is by using the 'Met Elkaartje' bus ticket, which provides unlimited travel within the North Brabant province at a rate of € 5 per day for 2 people or €7.50 per day for 3 people. The main bus station is situated at the north end of the Central Train Station.
